A successful Grand Final Day at Bendat Basketball Centre for our WABL Championship Men’s and Women’s divisions concluded with two worthy champions being crowned for the 2025 season.
In the Women’s Grand Final, the minor premiers Perry Lakes Hawks were aiming for a fourth consecutive title, but it was the Cockburn Cougars who came out firing. The Cougars set the tone with a 27–17 opening quarter, then extended their lead with a dominant 31–14 second term and a 25–17 third quarter that all but put the game out of reach. Led by guard Amelia Corasaniti with a game-high 36 points, Cockburn cruised to a commanding 100–64 victory, with Corasaniti earning Grand Final MVP honours. Jaya Scafidi added 19 points, while Lily Gammidge and Regan McCarty chipped in with 17 and 11 points respectively. For the Hawks, Beige Harris led the way with 13 points, and Emilie Beggs contributed 10.
In the Men’s Grand Final, the minor premiers Willetton Tigers were out to redeem their 2024 loss in a showdown with the Warwick Senators, who were playing in their first ever grand final. The opening half was tightly contested, with just one point separating the sides at the main break thanks to a long buzzer-beating three from Tigers guard Thom Musumeci that nudged Willetton ahead. The Tigers seized control in the third quarter, outscoring the Senators 33–21 to take a 13-point lead into the final term. Despite a determined final-quarter comeback from the Senators, the Tigers held firm to secure a 107–99 victory. Musumeci led the way with 32 points, while Timothy Ibukunoluwa added 30 and Aaron Gashaw chipped in 22. Ibukunoluwa was named Grand Final MVP. For the Senators, Logan Thwaites poured in a game-high 35 points, supported by Trey Sandon (22), Jordan Sandon (16), and Kye Chamberlain (16).
