The TCD WABL Championship is proud to announce the Most Valuable Players (MVPs) for the 2026 Open Championship season, with the winners revealed at the Basketball WA Gala Awards Night at Crown Perth on Saturday 25 July.

Men’s MVP
Tyson Kelly (Lakeside Lightning)

After leading the Lakeside Lightning to a league-best 12-2 regular season record and the minor premiership, Kelly has been recognised as the 2026 Open Championship Men’s MVP. The dynamic guard averaged 19.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game across 13 regular-season appearances. His outstanding consistency throughout the season earned him a league-high 65 MVP votes to claim the competition’s highest individual honour.

Women’s MVP
Aleka Kabugua (East Perth Eagles)

Kabugua has been named the 2026 Open Championship Women’s MVP after an outstanding season that helped guide the East Perth Eagles to the finals. Kabugua led the league in scoring with 18.9 points per game while also averaging 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per contest. Equally effective as a playmaker and scorer, the talented point guard consistently impacted both ends of the floor, finishing the regular season with 61 MVP votes across 12 games.
