2024 WABL Championship Men Grand Final wrap

The 2024 WABL Championship Men’s season concluded yesterday with the Perry Lakes Hawks defeating the Willetton Tigers in the Grand Final.

The Tigers controlled much of the first three quarters, led by guard Thom Musumeci in the first quarter and forward Aiden Fitzgerald in the second and third quarters. They led by nine points at half time and maintained that margin at three-quarter time. In the fourth quarter, a combined effort from the Hawks saw them slowly chip away at the deficit before taking the lead with just under three minutes remaining. The Hawks finished with a 20–8 final quarter and ran out winners 77–74 following a missed game-tying 3-pointer by the Tigers.

Fitzgerald finished with a game-high 28 points and five 3-pointers while Musumeci had 16 points and guard Travis Fee had 14 points. For the Hawks, centre Max Bucknell had 17 points alongside guards Harry Imison and Kyiah O’Donohue who had 15 points and 13 points respectively. Imison was named Grand Final MVP.

For the Hawks, it marked a Championship double following the women’s title last weekend.
